Kristine is a practicing midwife with more than 5,000 births attended over the course of her career. Her expertise has been built in the sacred space of birth on every continent, in humanitarian aid settings, in hands-on workshops, in clinical birth rooms, and remotely when she can’t be there in person. Her work has taken her to some of the most under-resourced corners of the world, from refugee camps in South Sudan to maternity wards in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Mozambique, where she has served as an expatriate midwife with international humanitarian medical organizations, often as the only skilled provider standing between a family and tragedy.

Within that body of work, Kristine has personally attended more than 500 breech births and hundreds of sets of twins and multiples, giving her a depth of hands-on experience with complex presentations that few practitioners anywhere in the world can match. She is fluent in the full range of physiological breech maneuvers, including Louwen, Løvset, modified Prague, Ritgen, shoulder press, and Burns-Marshall breech extraction, and is a strong advocate for upright, undisturbed physiological birth whenever it is safe to do so. Her experience spans the full spectrum of multiple-birth presentations, from straightforward vertex/vertex twins to rare monochorionic-monoamniotic pregnancies and combination presentations that rarely make it into textbooks.

Kristine’s clinical range extends well beyond breech and multiples. In low-resource, high-acuity environments, she has managed postpartum hemorrhage, disseminated intravascular coagulation, gestational trophoblastic disease, and other obstetric emergencies with limited equipment, minimal laboratory support, and no safety net beyond her own training and judgment. This work has required not only technical skill but the ability to make life-or-death decisions quickly, mentor local birth workers, and advocate fiercely for people navigating maternal mortality risks that most Western providers never encounter.

Kristine’s approach to midwifery was profoundly shaped by a thirty-year mentorship with a traditional midwife rooted in generations of hands-on birth knowledge, from whom she learned the finer points of breech birth, vaginal birth after multiple cesareans, hemorrhage management without pharmaceuticals, and the art of attending multiples. That apprenticeship instilled in Kristine a deep respect for physiological birth and the conviction that trust in the birth process, paired with clinical skill, produces better outcomes than fear-driven, overly medicalized intervention.

Today, Kristine actively teaches this expertise to birth professionals around the world. She leads hands-on breech and multiples workshops, delivers keynotes and conference presentations, and offers remote consulting and mentorship for midwives, obstetricians, and other providers looking to deepen their skills in these complex birth scenarios. Her teaching draws directly from decades in the field rather than theory alone, and she designs each training to build not just technical competence but the confidence and calm judgment that complex births demand. Her belief is simple: the skills she teaches don’t just build better midwives and obstetricians, they make birth safer and more empowering for families worldwide. Her work has been featured in a full-length documentary on birth and midwifery, bringing the realities of this work to audiences far beyond the birth community.

Kristine also writes and speaks candidly about the realities of humanitarian midwifery, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and the emotional weight of bearing witness to both birth and death in the field, and about the pressures facing the broader midwifery profession today. She has been featured on the Birthing Instincts podcast with Blyss Young and Stuart Fischbein, discussing birth stories from South Sudan, and she regularly provides chart reviews and expert witness testimony for midwives navigating regulatory and legal proceedings.
